Ecology (from Ancient Greek οἶκος (oîkos) 'house', and -λογία (-logía) 'study of')[A] is the study of the relationships among living organisms, including humans, and their physical environment. Ecology considers organisms at the individual, population, community, ecosystem, and biosphere level. Ecology is the the study of abundance, and distribution of organisms in the context of the environment; life processes, interactions, and adaptations; movement of materials and energy through living communities; successional development of ecosystems; cooperation, competition, and predation within and between species; and patterns of biodiversity and its effect on ecosystem processes.

Maria Grazia Testa is an expert in systemic approaches that enhance compassionate cognitive and behavioral responses. She helps private, public, and non-governmental organizations accelerate and intensify their sustainable impact by embracing complexity and a human-centric approach. She has run operations on 6 continents, driven transitions for multinationals worldwide, and led global programs affecting ecology, people, and economy in collaboration with the United Nations, the European Commission, local institutions, businesses, and civil society. In addition to her professional, environmental, and societal commitments, she brings expertise in engineering, the circular economy, organizational design, social sciences, and creativity, supporting evolutionary transitions and transformations that reconcile people and the planet. Her favourite quote is from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso: “We live very close together, so our prime purpose in life is to help others.”

Helena Conradie is a visionary, entrepreneurial thought leader, with a 30 years track record in the financial industry. Former CEO of Satrix, the leading index-tracking business in South Africa, she has relentlessly played a pioneer role in the global efforts to democratize investments and promoting financial inclusion, as fundamental levers to foster sustainable societies, economies and ecosystems. Her accomplishments have been granted recognitions as meaningful as a case study published by Harvard Business School in 2020. Helena has a wide and diverse range of competencies and passions (mathematics, photography, nature, travel, business strategy) and the capacity to simplify complexity in practical and accessible ways. This has allowed her to connect people, systems, different players within and between ecosystems, throughout her career, unlocking untapped value, instrumental to the transformation of businesses, resources, markets and products in service of people and planet. Her integrity and her capacity for critical thinking, have established her as an independent voice on boards within the financial as well as educational sector, where she brings her deep understanding of the link between purpose and profit, to inspire and collaborate by prioritising social responsibility and sustainability in business.
